Friday Happy: Maybe you will have a girl tonight

Just one of the happiest things to come out of YouTube in awhile. Jenny Lewis joins Belle and Sebastian to sing “Lazy Line Painter Jane” on stage in Hollywood on Oct. 3.

Friday Happy: Jenny, Zooey and Elvis

Because Fridays are for happy, here’s Jenny Lewis, Zooey Deschanel and Elvis Costello singing “Carpetbaggers,” one of only two songs worth listening to Acid Tongue, Lewis’ last solo album (sorry Jenny). The other song is “Next Messiah,” by the way, an unusually long but surprisingly textured, meandering and energetic country romp. Carpetbaggers is followed by Costello’s song, “Go Away.”

I thought the last Jenny Lewis solo album was underwhelming and the last Rilo Kiley album was a tragic rejection of the quirkiness and sonic adventuring that made up the appeal of their previous albums. But I remain enough of a fan to hang on to see what’s next. The future Mrs. Cab for Cutie did, however, put out an excellent album of well-written, light, country tinged AM pop last year, so check it out if you haven’t already.

Oh, Jenny. Even in an odd bell-bottom pant-suit combo, you can wear my Power Glove any time.
